About QuickOper

QuickOper makes money calculators that show their working, prove their arithmetic, and never send anything you type to a server.

Who writes this

QuickOper is built and maintained by Vikash Singh, a software engineer. Everything on the site — the calculations, the tests, the writing — is his work, and the source is public at GitHub.

What we are actually claiming to be good at

There is a real difference between advice and arithmetic, and QuickOper only does the second.

Telling you whether to clear your credit card before topping up your pension is advice. It depends on your job security, your tax position, your family, your temperament and your plans, and it needs a qualified person who knows all of that. We will never do it.

Working out that adding $200 a month to a particular balance removes four years and $3,140 of interest, and showing you every month of the schedule that gets there — that is arithmetic. It is verifiable, it is checkable against published figures, and it is something a careful engineer can get exactly right.

So the expertise being claimed here is computational, not advisory: that the numbers are correct, the method is disclosed, and the tests are public. How we verify our numbers sets out precisely how that is checked, including a worked example you can repeat.

Why the site exists

Most free calculators give you a single number and no way to check it. You cannot see the formula, you cannot see the months in between, you cannot tell whether the assumptions match your situation, and you certainly cannot verify the result. If the answer is wrong you have no way of knowing.

Meanwhile the tools that do show detail usually want your email address first, and send your figures to a server on the way.

QuickOper is the opposite of both. Every tool gives you:

• the formula, and the intermediate values it produced;
• every period of the schedule, not just the total;
• the assumptions, and where they stop matching reality;
• the result as a spreadsheet or a printable document you can keep;
• no sign-up, no email, no tracking of what you typed.

Nothing you type leaves your device

This is a structural fact, not a promise we are asking you to take on faith. QuickOper is a static site with no backend and no database. The calculators are JavaScript running in your browser, on your machine. There is no server that could receive your balances, because there is no server at all.

Shareable links carry the numbers so a scenario can be reopened — but never the names you give your debts. See privacy.

Corrections

If a figure here disagrees with your lender or an official worked example, that is worth knowing and we want to hear about it. Corrections are made openly, with the change and its date recorded on the affected page. Email vikash@quickoper.com or open an issue on GitHub.

How this is paid for

Nothing on QuickOper is behind a payment or a sign-up. In future the site may carry advertising, or links to products where we would be paid a commission. When that happens it will be labelled clearly on the page it appears on, and it will never change which answer a calculator gives you — the arithmetic does not know or care what is being advertised beside it.
